Diedrich grew up in Switzerland with an alcoholic father and emotionally vacant mother. He strove for their attentions with little to no success, and the little success that he did receive wasn't good attention in the first place. He comforted, instead, with the birth of his brother when he was eight. All of the affection he wanted to give those that didn't want it, he gave to the child instead. Met with the same cold hostility from his parents, his brother attached to Diedrich as the only source of affection and care in the house, and as time wore on, Diedrich himself knew that he could only allow himself to trust his brother, because he knew for certain the world was filled with dark and distrustful people.

He gave him everything he had, and more. Whatever he wanted, he caved to, even things he didn't want to give. His brother manipulated him, threatening to take away the love Diedrich strove for so desperately. Toward others, he was cold and cruel. He protected his brother from them, often violently, which generally ended up with his brother having little to no friends at all. His brother died in a car accident that left Diedrich unconscious for a week. Corrupted with guilt, he committed suicide just shy of his twenty-ninth birthday.

Diedrich is obsessed with finding his brother, but has not yet. However, his memory has stirred an irritating hero complex, in which he feels he has to protect anyone that reminds him of him. He will often do this behind the scenes, threatening those that threaten them, but he does it nonetheless. He can't settle unless he does. He also has a penchant for collecting stray kittens off the street and keeping them for some time before giving them away to respectable people, not anyone he doesn't trust enough to care for one.

He works as a librarian so that he can avoid people. However, lonely as he is, he finds comfort in hookups and flings. Distrusting, however, as he is, he never advances more than that. With partners, he's extremely controlling and dominant. He seldom allows another to overthrow him, as he would rather leave than give up his control of any situation. His home is extremely neat and extremely organized. Everything has a place and everything is exactly how he wants it to be, and anyone who tries to edit these things will be smacked in the face.

While extremely intelligent and fairly charming, he's particularly unambitious, and has littler interest in being someone of high esteem, as he just sees it as a bother.

The thought of dying again doesn't scare him. In fact, if he can't find his brother eventually, he would welcome the thought of it. He smokes a hell of a lot, mostly to deal with the anxiety of social situations, and he suspects it'll make him sick one day. And so what if it does? He doubts it would go noticed.
