[atrb=colspan,3] Jin never saw a thing in the real world. In her life, as far back as she could remember, her eyes never saw. She never knew her parents, and instead grew accustomed to the presence of an old swordsmaster. These things never really bothered her, and the fact that the old man cared for her, but didn't treat her any more specially than any other person, greatly contributed to that. Moving around was difficult at first, but it wasn't hard to get used to the house, and it wasn't like she often left it anyways. Living in the times of Feudal Japan, samurai were those who upheld honor and justice, and although she'd never seen one, Jin admired them more than anything else. The tales her master/foster father told, combined with the rare times some visited for the old man's teachings, only served to strengthen that admiration. Blind, however, she had little chances of doing anything more than that. Yet somehow, she did. Her interest in wielding a sword was only to be expected considering who raised her, but a blind girl training as a samurai would was more than unthinkable. Her master adamantly refused the first time she requested it, when she was ten years old, but she didn't let it go. Jin asked consistently from then on, every so often popping the question at a random moment, and getting turned down each and every time. It took sneaking into the training grounds at night, sword in hand, for her caretaker to relent and teach her the basics before she got hurt. Her name was masculine and her hair was cropped short, and considering the little attention their dwelling bought, that was enough to hide her identity if need be. Her training formally started when she was eleven. Through the years, her training steadily progressed. It took longer to learn without her sight, but it alas wasn't impossible. A blind swordsman, that was what she soon dreamed to be at every praise her master threw her way. She would be famous, even perhaps among samurai. She never let her impediment rule her, and all the progress she made, and every hill she had to overcome in time, filled her with utmost confidence. It was a shame that after four years of training, she happened to trip as she was practicing alone. Challenging herself, she'd tried on a slight incline, but the fairly smooth sparring grounds were completely different from natural earth, filled with ditches and stones. She impaled herself as she fell; first it was only falling, then a stabbing pain in her stomach, and then she was dead. Blood loss, most likely, because she didn't have the mind to scream. In the afterlife, Jin feels ashamed more than anything. Her dreams seemed childish (look at the pathetic way she killed herself!), and her skill with a sword seemed like nothing at all. Her sight being cured meant nothing, she was a failure of a swordsman and a fool for thinking she could match a samurai someday, even if the dream was fleeting. From then until now, Jin's done what she could to reclaim any honor she may have had. She no longer tainted her sword with her immaturity, and relinquished any thoughts of being able to wield it. The time she spent sulking soon were just another act of childishness, and she began wearing a smile everywhere, acting cheerful to everyone she met. It must have been hundreds of years since she's been dead, and now, Jin has adjusted herself to some more modern things. She wears "normal" clothes, as opposed to her Japanese styled ones, and has simply grown accustomed to being distant from everyone. She doesn't bother to hide how fake her cheery-ness is, and doesn't really care if others point anything out; she'll just ignore them and carry on with her day. But she still carries her sword around, and she's convinced herself that it's because an honorable person wouldn't try and throw their past away. They'd live with it. Additionally, Jin doesn't try to do what seems impossible anymore. Her death taught her that it was best not to get ahead of herself, and give up before she becomes a disappointment; to both herself and whoever else was involved. The pain of realizing that you simply lack the ability you thought you had is heartbreaking, and so Jin has also taken on trying to be considerate of other people and discouraging them from things they obviously can't do. In her eyes, she's doing the right thing. To support herself and earn money, the white haired girl's taken to doing various tasks for random people, charging small fees for each. This is how she spends most of her days, and it's been enough to keep just her satisfied, especially when she tries to work the majority of twenty-four hours. Jin also likes to end sentences with "y' see?" (you see?) as an ironic joke to herself. | ||
